Traditional Style Icon Board Preparation Steps:
Step 1: Place Icon Board flat on the table. Step 2: Pour Burlap Lining Adhesive and spread evenly a about 1/16 of an inch thick using Adhesive Application Blades (Pigment Scrapers). Stay away from the edges, clean them up if needed: Step 3: Place/Spread Burlap Lining over and press down firmly with your hands and/or clean Application Blade. Make sure there are no creases or folds and bubbles. Let it completely dry. Step 4: Once the adhesive is completely cured, 24 hr or so, dilute adhesive 50/50 with water and seal lightly the top of the burlap. Trim the overlap with razor blade or utility knife. Let it dry (24 hr or so). Step 5: Tape the edges and apply a thin base coat of "Levkas Plaster". Optionally you can follow it with a second base coat of levkas plaster - see Double Base vs Single Base Pros & Cons NOTE: It is possible to use Sgraffito Grip & Base in place of traditional style icon board Levkas Plaster. The difference is the former is contemporary formulated dry lime and cement based with polymers plaster mix and the latter is a pozzolana based fine sand & slaked lime plaster.NOTE: See “What is Isolating Primer?” for the alternative panel or board plaster installation method.
